A Virus With Heinous Reaper Attitudes

It is said that in the realm of infectious diseases, a pandemic is the worst-case scenario. When an infectious epidemic spread beyond a country’s borders and ravage other nations, that’s when the infection officially becomes a pandemic.

Humanity has been combating communicable diseases from the beginning of time. Evidences abound of infectious diseases during humanity’s hunter-gatherer epoch. It was observed that the progression into agrarian mode of living some 10,000 or so years ago with its close-quartered communities made infectious diseases more rampant and fatal.

It’s thought that diseases such as leprosy, influenza, malaria, tuberculosis, smallpox, chickenpox, among others were first noticed during this foggy past.

And in 2019, one of the mad hatter cousins of the common cold viruses of the class of Corona Viruses, COVID-19, surged into the view of humanity and ravaged all known social, political, and economic concourse. This lifeform with a determined attitude, if dastardly, is so dangerous to the social order that we know before its emergence. Despite its very low mortality rate compared to other fatal infectious and non-infectious diseases, this lifeform spreads with maddening rapidity, swifter than ‘Flash’.

Considering the very low mortality rate of COVID-19, which is about 2% to 5%, according to numbers from WHO, one might consider that this sinister lifeform has a purpose. See, it spreads fast; it infects with fury; it causes a carrier - an infected person - to transmit it (the virus) to others via (you know this: respiratory channels and hands; it infects everyone, but selectively disable and kill some targeted classes of people. In fact, a solid percentage of 40-54% of infected persons was quoted as recovering without any medication and did not even show the symptoms. Guess the class of these lots; young, virile people!

There are viruses with very high mortality rates are such as Marburg with 80%; Ebola with between 50% to 71%; Rabies with 100%; HIV with almost 100% at the period of the outbreak; Smallpox with about 30%; Dengue Fever with 20%; MERS-coronavirus with 30% to 40%; and SARS-CoV with 9.2%. The last two, MERS and SARS are members of the family of COVID-19. Global cases numbers as at Jul 8 2020 are 11,797,213 cases have been Confirmed; 543,595 Fatality; and 6,415,379 Recovered. As we can see, despite the very low rate of mortality, COVID-19 has become pandemic. Here are some characteristics of the COVID 19 which make it very dangerous; 1) it has no specific medicine to treat it; 2) it has longer Incubation Period; 3) it survives in all weather conditions; 4) persists on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days.

The scariest thing about the virus is its highly contagious nature such that in less than 40 days, it has spread virtually all countries of the world across the continents. With its unique characteristics of 1) Human-to-human-without-touch, 2) Human-to-human-with-touch, and 3) Human-to-the-surface-to-human, humanity is confronted with something with a purpose!

What’s the life purpose of this lifeform?

I am one person, I believe like many others, who believe that all lifeforms, including bacteria, viruses, mosses, planktons, hyenas, vultures, all the way across the millions of lifeforms, including humans and the beings who operated the human forms, have a purpose for their existence. Everything in life has, to my mind, a symbiotic connection with one another and the whole, for the continuous progress of life.

We know that Malaria is a disease which teaches humans beings to have and maintain some form of hygiene within their environment. The purpose for the existence of the mosquito that acts as the carrier of this parasite (which belongs to the family of Plasmodium (phylum Apicomplexa) seems to be to whip erring humans into higher condition of environmental hygiene.

The COVID-19 seems to be a reaper of the physically and mentally weak and ill of humanity. Anyone with weak physical constitution that may be due to poor immune system, “leaky gut”, who has one illness or disease ravaging their body, and especially those with very poor state of emotions (as the emotions dictate the state of health of people) is at a high, fatal risk of not surviving COVID-19 infection. All the reported deaths are of those with preexisting or underlying medical conditions.

To my mind, I think that this specific virus has the aim of eliminating from the embrace of humanity its elderly, ill, and sick, leaving the virile to carry on the touch of life.

This Great Reaper of a virus is not interested in the life or wellbeing of the virile members of humanity.

When the prevailing conditions of fear, panic, and rash actions of governments and others are over and we return to recover our broken lives (for the poor majority of individuals and countries), COVID-19 or a sibling or mutation of this heinous virus will remain with us, watching, seizing, and deporting the weak, sick, and ill among us to the ‘great beyond’.

All over world and in every country, people have been complaining of the poor or inadequate healthcare infrastructure, personnel, medicines, etc. Now, we have someone in the lifeform of COVID-19 to either 1) render our healthcare system the very best we should have, or 2) make those places of body-care cease to have customers, pardon me, patients, as the majority of the ill would have been reaped from our embrace.
