Of Writing Style 2

Here concluded my Writing Style...

Continuing, I have come a longish way to where I currently am. Yes, It's a longish way and time, counting from when my memories afforded me view. However, from the stance of achievements as a writer, I am but feeling my way.

And, here in my spots on the planet, I hole up, sitting in the midst of the most monstrous storms of stories and truths there are. Pregnant with words, and yet, I lack the midwifery of publishers to simmer the word-weariness and unburden my bursting heads (yes, heads; internal and the body's). As the Yoruba people called the inner head ,"Ori Inu", it must be actual.

But, of the style of writing, here is my belief. Let me say that to me the word 'belief', especially when it's mine, is sacrosanct. Until a lightening bolt of truth and or barefaced facts invaded my consciousness, announcing the fallacy or unreasonableness of my belief, it retains its ne plus ultra as far as my basis of reasoning and behaviors is concerned.

Therefore, I say:

There are 'human rights', right? These 'rights' are being propagated to the generality of the people in decent societies, giving people awareness of the truth that they are, as individuals, divine, creators and inviolable.

On the one hand, the rights of an individual are sacrosanct and inviolable - optimally, ideally.

On the other hand, and, as vital, is the truth that an individual's rights do not intrude upon, reduce or prevent another individual's rights.

That's just beautiful, right?

That's the lens through which I look at, and see, the matter of style, writing or otherwise.

Your writing (or any other) right IS YOURS to define, refine and express.

I have known some great writers, and others, who insisted that "there is a writing style that everyone must learn to be a good writer".

There's nothing as invasively false as that statement. I know that the people who share such an opinion have the best intentions for others. However, it is a fallacy born of improper observation.

A question: "Who decides what a style is? Is there a god of writing style with a paper tablet of "7 writing commandments"?" well, two questions.

If you write to please the reading public, great writers, and particularly critics, then find and study the sanctioned writing styles.

But, if you desire to express yourself, your life, your divinity, share your dreams, your pains, your joys et al with us, humanity, don't be shirked or balked by styles and patterns.

Don't be fazed by your 'poor' grammar, spelling 'errors', 'weak' sentence structure, 'confusing' plot, 'foggy' characterization, et al. I picked the words in parenthesis from a critique of some writing I read. So these writing ailments must be real, and they are.

However, the aforementioned items are writing tools that will mature in your grip as you write, and read!

So, Write!

One great writer said: "There are two rules to writing: "Write" and "Read"."

Guess how you will come to your own style: Write!

The right to write is yours. The right to a writing style is yours. For both, these are because you are a creator, by your primal nature. A creator doesn't go about cap in hand, pleadingly and propitiously, learning how other creators created their own creations.

Were you to do that... ah! You'll end up being a poor, and sick, imitation of those creators you attempt to copy.

Another thing: humanity. by its nature, love diversity! We don't value the sameness monotonousness of people, books, genres, styles... what have you.

Life is boisterously diverse in ways multitudinous.

So?

Splurge on creating a new civilization, new language, new behaviors, new lifestyle, new technologies, new people!

For it is in the powers of writers, alone, that these powers lies; powers to create a new tomorrow.

So, write, and read, too!

I read, study, search, and write to my understanding... and I hope to yours, too.
